Why Cigarette Beetles Are a Problem

A single infested package of spice or pet food can seed beetles throughout an entire pantry. They contaminate food, damage books and natural fiber products, and are difficult to eliminate without finding and discarding every infested source.

How We Treat Cigarette Beetles

We inspect the entire pantry to identify all infested products, which must be discarded. Crack and crevice treatment targets harborage in shelving. Pheromone traps monitor for any adults that emerge post-treatment. Airtight container recommendations prevent recurrence.

Every treatment plan is tailored to your property and pest pressure. Jason does a full assessment before recommending an approach.

Cigarette Beetles Questions, Answered

Cigarette beetles frequently enter packages during manufacturing or at warehouses before you purchase them. Their larvae bore into packaging materials and can even exit and enter through thin plastic film. If one package is infested, adults fly to other products in your pantry within days.
Cigarette beetles infest an unusually wide range of products including dried herbs, spices, flour, cornmeal, pet food, dry pasta, dried flowers, potpourri, books (they eat the binding), tobacco, and even picture frames with wooden backing. Check all of these if you find beetles in your pantry.
Transfer all pantry items from paper or thin plastic packaging into airtight glass or hard plastic containers immediately after treatment. This eliminates future breeding sites. Check incoming groceries before storing them, especially spices and grains purchased in bulk.
Cigarette beetles and their larvae are not toxic, but they contaminate food with waste, shed skins, and silk webbing. Finding them is reason to discard the infested product, not just sift them out. Once you have eliminated the infestation, products in intact airtight containers are safe to use.
