How to Identify Argentinian Ants

Look for these specific characteristics before treatment.

  • Light to dark brown, uniform size around 1/10 inch
  • Organized single-file trails along baseboards, countertops, and pipes

Why Argentinian Ants Are a Problem

Argentine ant supercolonies displace native ant species, disrupt local ecosystems, and contaminate food at scale. They are extremely difficult to control with DIY products because repellent sprays only cause the colony to split and relocate.

How We Treat Argentinian Ants

Slow-acting non-repellent bait that workers carry deep into the colony. Treatment targets trails, nesting areas, and exterior entry points. We recommend quarterly service to prevent reinfestation from neighboring properties.

Every treatment plan is tailored to your property and pest pressure. Jason does a full assessment before recommending an approach.

Argentinian Ants Questions, Answered

A supercolony is a massive network of Argentine ant nests that share workers and queens and do not fight each other. A single supercolony can span entire city blocks. Because the colony is so large and interconnected, repellent sprays that scatter workers only move the problem, not eliminate it.
Argentine ants prefer moist environments. In Southwest Florida, they nest along irrigation lines, under pavement, in mulch, near AC condensation drip lines, and inside walls near plumbing. Eliminating moisture sources around your foundation helps reduce their appeal.
Slow-acting bait is intentional: workers must carry it back through the colony network before it takes effect. Expect visible improvement in 5 to 10 days, with significant reduction in 2 to 3 weeks. Patience matters here because fast-acting products cause the colony to split.
Complete permanent elimination is difficult because Argentine ant supercolonies can reinvade from neighboring properties. Quarterly service maintains a protective barrier that prevents new colonies from establishing in your home and yard.
